We continued the review of program budgets at the February 6thRSU #38 School Board meeting.
Technology Director Diane MacGregor reported on requests for the instructional technology budget. The budget includes new network equipment, as follows: two Cisco 5500 Airnet Controllers, one for the Middle School and one for the High School; 5 UPS units – one for each elementary school, and one for the MS/HS; and 2 DHCP Servers that will improve network security for the entire district. The total cost for this network equipment is $12,100.00, but since this equipment qualifies for reimbursement through the federal E-Rate program (60% E-Rate reimbursement), the total budget increase for this equipment is $4,840.00.

Dear Maranacook families and friends!
It is with great pride that I introduce myself as your new Superintendent of Schools. I can not begin to express how excited, honored, and humbled I am by the opportunity to lead such an outstanding school system! In my career I have been a classroom teacher having had assignments in grades 4 thru 8, teaching all core subjects at some point! I then moved into administration having started as a teaching principal in a small elementary school and then progressed into opportunities as a building administrator at different elementary, middle and high schools. All total, I have worked in education for over 25 years and enjoyed every minute of it! My most recent position was as principal of Hall Dale Elementary in Hallowell. I have three children; my oldest son works in Portland, my daughter is currently attending St. Joseph’s college to be a science teacher, and my youngest son having just graduated from Maranacook Community High School! We moved into central Maine only a year ago from Fort Kent, our past home for 17 years. I currently live in Manchester with my wife of 26 years (who is a high school math teacher) and our dog, Lukah. We love the Central Maine area and the strong sense of community that we have found! I am very excited for the 2018 - 2019 school year and look forward to getting to know the students, staff, and communities that make up RSU 38. Please feel free to reach out to discuss our schools at anytime.

Students, staff, citizens, and business and town leaders of RSU #38 will gather on March 16, and March 17, 2018, to create a common vision for the future of our schools. This cross-section of the community will gather at Maranacook Community High School for the Friday session that will begin at 4:30 p.m. (registration at 4:00) and end at 8:00 p.m. Dinner will be provided. The Saturday session will begin at 8:00 a.m. for breakfast, with the work session starting at 8:30 a.m. and ending at 3:30 p.m. We would like to invite any members of the RSU #38 community to participate in this exciting and important two-day event. Please call Donna Foster at 685-3336 ext. 2 to register.
Judy Enright, an experienced moderator and former public school administrator will lead the discussion using a process known as Future Search. Judy has worked extensively in Maine and throughout New England, most recently in Rhode Island, to lead communities as they have made major, positive changes in their schools using a similar visioning process. “I have seen amazing things happen as a result of a community coming together in this way to dream about what their schools could become,” said James Morse, former Superintendent of Limestone Schools and Portland Public Schools.
RSU #38’s Future Search will focus on this question, “How will RSU #38 continue to evolve to ensure that our students are prepared to meet the challenges and opportunities of a changing world?” The goal is to create a shared vision for the future of the RSU #38 schools that can be implemented during the next five to 10 years.
Updated information about Future Search will be posted on the RSU #38 website: http://www.maranacook.org. The direction set at our Future Search will become the basis of a strategic plan that will guide the work of our school system. Please consider attending this important event. This work is critically important.
