5th Grade Students at Mt. Vernon Elementary School were challenged to learn perspective of drawing a person with legs and arms angled backward, as well as expressing their individuality. They were offered to use a mirror to look at their facial features. We talked about the proportion of the face. Then the fun began! They made the drawing resemble themselves in clothing, and accessory choices. After they outlined in marker, colored neatly with crayon, it was time for the background. I sang them the song “Raindrops on Roses” from Sound of Music all about favorite things. The background was to include their favorite things. Creativity and drawing skills meet in one expressive artistic masterpiece!
