Hour of Code!

RSU 38 is participating in The Hour of Code Event, a global movement reaching tens of millions of students in over 180 countries, during the week of December 7-11.  This event is organized by Code.org, a public non-profit dedicated to expanding participation in in computer science by making it more available in schools, and is supported by an unprecedented coalition of partners including Microsoft, Apple, Amazon, Boys and Girls Clubs of America and the College Board.  Students as young as Kindergarten have been fully engaged in enjoying the variety of tutorials featuring kid popular themes such as Angry Birds, Star Wars, Minecraft, and Anna and Elsa from Frozen as they explore the basics of computer programming using Blockly.  While one hour doesn’t sound like much, it is enough to expose students to the fun and creativity of computer science, regardless of age, gender or background, and to create an enthusiasm for learning these valuable skills.

Here’s a great article on the Hour of Code event!
