Model UN Conference

The MCS Social Studies Department is honored to have worked with such a great group of students over the last few months in preparing for the Model UN Conference at Northeastern University in Boston. We were told by Caitlin Moore who runs the Conference on behalf of the United Nations Association of Greater Boston, that our students would win the award for the most engaged and best prepared for the Conference if there was such an award! She told us all of the Staff were talking about how great our students were. We attend for the learning experience, not the awards, but we are always appreciative of any awards students earn.

For their efforts, Grace Despres and Luke Bartol won the Best Position Paper award in UNODA representing Qatar; Molly Searway and Mira Moreau won for Best Position Paper representing Russia in the ECOSOC; and Abby Despres and Zach Holman won the Best Negotiators award representing Qatar in UNESCO. The Security Council is reserved for the most experienced students, so the competition there is the highest. John Parent and Jacob Ide won the Best Delegation award representing Russia in the Security Council. This is the first time we have ever won the highest award at the Model UN. Please keep in mind schools such as Milton Academy, Central Catholic High School, and Boston Latin Academy (among others) attend this conference, so this is high praise for all of our students as well as the award winners!
