On Friday, December 16, the Royal River Team was able to have a video conference with a NASA scientist from the John Glenn Space Center in Ohio. It is also amazing that NASA offers these conferences free of charge to schools. Students have been learning about the challenges of space travel since last trimester. This trimester they have been learning about the technology developed by NASA to allow this to happen. Mr. Roger Storm was very engaging and did a wonderful job of addressing the students’ questions. He talked to us about the challenges NASA is facing in trying to plan how to get humans to Mars. Students had prepared many questions which he readily answered and gave them much more to think about as well.
Students’ reactions included, “That guy was really cool!” ” It was a great learning opportunity.” “He was amazing!” “We are so lucky to have the technology in our school that allows for us to have this kind of direct interaction with outside organizations.”
