On May 24th six iTeam members from Maranacook Community Middle School and two chaperones joined 1100+ students and teachers from around the state for the 15th annual MLTI Student Technology Conference at the University of Maine in Orono. The conference celebrates and shares how technology is being used across the state to promote student engagement and foster effective 21st century skills. Students began the day listening to a powerful keynote address by Nicole Pendleton, an eighth grade student from Camden-Rockport Middle School. Nicole shared her newly found interest in coding and encouraged others to be open to new learning experiences and follow their passions. The inspiring keynote was followed by two student selected workshops- our group chose to attend Create your own Virtual World and Digital mini GOLF. Both workshops were hands on and engaging. Following lunch in the college cafeteria, the 1100+ participants reconvened in the Collins Center for the Art auditorium to participate in the Uber Session. All 1100+ participants worked together to create interactive digital art to interact with the music being performed by the Ballroom Thieves and Maine Youth Rock Orchestra on stage. It was an augmented reality experience we all enjoyed being a part of!
