Maranacook Community High School and Middle School held their annual advisor training at Camp Laurel on 8/29/16. All advisors advisors received the book, GRIT: The Power of Passion and Perseverance, by Angela Duckworth. This was sponsored by the GEAR UP grant. The book can be used as a way to help advisors help their advisees gain perseverance in achieving their goals. GRIT explains how anyone can succeed, “—be it parents, students, educators, athletes, or business people—that the secret to outstanding achievement is not talent but a special blend of passion and persistence she calls grit,” (Barnes and Noble). All staff in RSU 38 have been invited to also participate in a book study. All advisors were also provided through the GEAR UP grant. The shirt read, “May the Force be with you.” The shirt symbolizes what advisors strive accomplish. As a Maranacook advisor, staff are fortunate to be able to help guide young people as they navigate through middle school and high school. MCS advisors get the amazing opportunity to help advisees in working with others, support them as they learn more about themselves, and are able to support them in getting through difficult situations as well as in achieving their goals.
