Maranacook Community High School had 4 students from Mr. Gower’s class compete in the State National History Day contest on 4/8/2017 at the University of Maine in Orono. Two of our students earned medals. Will Green won 3rd place for his documentary on John Lennon and Laura Parent won 1st place for her paper on the internment of Japanese-Americans in WW2. Laura now gets to represent Maine with the other winners and 2nd place finishers in each category at Nationals in DC in June. Also participating were Naomi Moulton with an exhibit on POW survivor Louis Zamperini and Emma Feagin with an exhibit on the Newsboys strike in 1899. Each student had to go through an interview session with judges and defend their work. Over 250 students from around the State participated. Please join me in congratulating all 4 of them when you see them!
PS- Special thanks to Susan Trott, our librarian, and Lori Twiss, our technology integrator, for working with these students on their projects!
