Cheryl L. Marvinney, High School Physical Science/Earth Science teacher, will receive $400.00 for her project, Stream On. Stream behavior (flooding, sediment movement, erosion) and human impact (culverts, runoff, pollution) play an important role in our lives. She will purchase a 4 ft x 8 ft stream table (including supports, plastic “sand”, water pump and plumbing) for students to investigate these impacts. The table box is supported by saw horses and a small pump circulates water through it. Students manipulate flow, obstacles and gradient to evaluate changes in the stream and its banks. The goal is to provide students with an exciting way to investigate real world problems, that are part of required standards; through, collaboration with the Sustainable Forestry Initiative.
