Ventilation System Update 6/2/2017

Dear Manchester Families and Staff,

Please read the following message from Dr. Wolfrom.

Dear Manchester Staff and Parents,

Last night, June 1, 2017, the Facilities Committee of the RSU #38 School Board met to discuss plans for improving the ventilation system at Manchester Elementary School.  Also attending and participating in the discussion were parent representatives Craig Garofalo and Jeremy Payne, Local Advisory Representative, Chris Montagna,  Selectperson, Dawn Kliphan, Shaun Drinkwater, Brigette Williams, Principal, Janet Delmar, Superintendent, Donna Wolfrom, and RSU #38 School Board Chair, Terri Watson.  After reviewing research on various options the Committee voted unanimously to secure bids on small univentilators for each of the twelve rooms in Manchester Elementary School that do not already have univentilators or airhandler/air diffuser systems.  We are hoping to move as quickly as possible in order to determine a timeline for this work. It is our goal that the systems will be installed prior to the start of the FY18 school year.  We will keep you updated as we receive more information.

Janet Delmar, Principal

Water Damage Update 3/23/2017

Dear Manchester Families and Staff,

I want to provide you with some updates on the work that has been completed and some upcoming work to be done on the water damage that has occurred in several areas of the school.

Vicki McMullen's room has been thoroughly cleaned and all repairs have been made.  The carpet has been replaced along with ceiling tiles and insulation.  The new bookshelves for the room are scheduled to be built and installed during the upcoming April vacation.

Laura Doherty's PreK classroom has had all of the necessary work completed with the exception of insulating the ductwork in the ceiling, which is scheduled to be completed by the end of the April vacation.

In the kitchen area, Serve Pro has removed ceiling tiles and insulation.  They will be returning Friday afternoon and will be working throughout the weekend on the recommended remediation and repairs. K.C. Joe Roofing will be fixing the roof over the kitchen this weekend as well.  Serve Pro is expected to complete all other work in the kitchen area over April vacation.  The kitchen is still fully operational and is continuing to serve breakfast and lunch.

Thank you,

Janet Delmar, Principal

Water Damage 3/21/2017

Dear Manchester Families and Staff,

I just wanted to inform you about some water damage in the kitchen ceiling at Manchester Elementary School. After discovering it today, Curt Morse, Director of Operations and Maintenance, was called. He came on site immediately to assess the situation and has contacted the roofing company that did the roof work over this past summer. It appears that the leak occurred around a heating unit in the roof. He also called Serve Pro and they came to the school and provided us with recommendations that include removing some ceiling tiles and insulation. Serve Pro will be working on this clean up tonight, 3/21/17.  I have also spoken with Jeff Bridges, Director of Food Services, and he assures me that school lunches will be served tomorrow as usual.

Please contact me if you have more questions.

Thank you,

Janet Delmar, Principal

Water Damage 3/15/2017

Dear Manchester Families and Staff,

I just wanted to inform you about some water damage that occurred at Manchester Elementary School last night, 3/14/17. Due to the high winds snow backed up on the roof and drifted into a louver then it melted and ran down along the duct work in Laura Doherty's PreK classroom. After discovering it this morning, Curt Morse, Director of Operations and Maintenance, was called.  He came on site immediately to assess the situation. He called Serve Pro and they came to the school and provided us with recommendations that include removing four ceiling tiles, insulation, and the use of some fans for drying a small area of carpet.  All recommended work should be completed by Friday, 3/17/17 and the room will be available for students again on Monday.  PreK will have their class in the Art room tomorrow, 3/16/17 while the PreK classroom is being worked on.  I will keep you updated.

Please contact me if you have more questions.

Thank you,

Janet Delmar

What should parents know about Snapchat?

Kids and teens love using the messaging app Snapchat because it lets you send texts, pictures, and videos that you program to disappear after a few seconds. But parents should be aware that it's not actually true that Snaps disappear forever.  Learn more about Snapchat here at Common Sense Media.

Important Reminder to All Parents:

To ensure safety for all, the circle in front of the school is for busses only between 7:15-8:00 AM and 2:30-3:05 PM. Parents are asked to park in the rear school parking lot (near Castletown) when dropping off/picking up their child during that time. Please note, our school day does not start until 7:30 a.m. (all exterior doors are locked until this time and students will not be allowed to enter until 7:30 a.m.!) Additionally, students may not be dropped off on the playground until 7:30 a.m. because there are no duty teachers until this time!
