All MES families are encouraged to participate in the Maine Department of Education Reading to ME Challenge.
Reading to your child is likely the most important way you can impact their reading skills and provide a strong foundation for learning throughout their academic journey. Reading daily helps children learn language, acquire vocabulary and develop knowledge of the world. In addition, the time spent together is valuable family time. Older children may enjoy hearing a chapter book and parents could share the reading with them.
Time spent reading = children who are capable readers who LOVE to read!
When: February 4- March 2, 2019
How to Participate:
Read for 15 minutes/day for at least 5 days/week.
1. Who should read to/with my child? Parents, grandparents, older siblings........ Even the dog (well maybe they are best at listening to stories) You may even want to Facetime a story with relatives living out of town.
2. Complete a weekly reading form.
3. Take a picture of the readers and email it to your child’s teacher. We will print the pictures and add them to our school bulletin board.
Where can you find books to read? School library books, public libraries, and classrooms will have a basket of books to take home overnight for children who want additional reading materials.
You may be worried about whether cyberbullying will affect your children, or maybe your child has already experienced cyberbullying and you want to know how to prevent it from happening again. This parent presentation can help. Please join us on February 26 from 6:00 to 7:00 pm for a presentation on Cyberbullying and Digital Drama. This presentation will look at defining and understanding it; detecting if it has happened to your child, as well as ways to prevent and handle it should it happen. While students are welcome to attend, the focus and content are more appropriate for parents. We hope you will be able to attend.
MES Transportation Letter 12:17:18
We were notified by RSU #38 Transportation that bus 19 is now running again! This means that all of the MES buses will be back on their previous schedules! This may mean earlier pickups for your children and earlier drop offs! The PREK bus will not be starting back up until January 2nd.

It is with much enthusiasm that I begin the new year as the new principal here at Manchester Elementary School. Twenty-two years ago I began my teaching career right here at MES as a student teacher in the resource room!! What a welcome surprise to find myself once again in this highly respected, caring school community.
A brief bio of me: I taught elementary school for twelve years as a resource room teacher and then a teacher of grades k-3. For the past ten years I have been a teaching principal and then a principal of two elementary schools. As importantly, I am a parent of three grown children, two step daughters, two grandsons and more grandchildren in October!! Not to mention the dogs, cats, cows, sheep and one goat named Old Joe Gage! In essence, I am a seasoned educator and parent and a slightly experienced farmer.
I love the learning process and eagerly join the MES staff to ensure your children grow academically and socially/emotionally. Though it is still early in the summer, I am anxious and excited to meet your children and I look forward to working with families and teachers in the year ahead.

To ensure safety for all, the circle in front of the school is for busses only between 7:15-8:00 AM and 2:30-3:05 PM. Parents are asked to park in the rear school parking lot (near Castletown) when dropping off/picking up their child during that time. Please note, our school day does not start until 7:30 a.m. (all exterior doors are locked until this time and students will not be allowed to enter until 7:30 a.m.!) Additionally, students may not be dropped off on the playground until 7:30 a.m. because there are no duty teachers until this time!
