Hour of Code!

What is coding?

Coding is what makes it possible for us to create computer software, apps, and websites.

If you like building blocks, you will like coding!

Students in Grades 1-5 have been using a nationally sponsored website called code.org to teach students the basics of creating code. “Code.org® is a nonprofit dedicated to expanding access to computer science in schools. Our vision is that every student in every school has the opportunity to learn computer science.”

At MTV and RES, students have used the following:

Kodable is a favorite for Gr 1-2 students as they have done prior activities in computer classes with Fuzz Bugs programs which are appealing fuzzy characters that they can assign a task to program their bug.
Candy Quest is another popular option for designing your own candy character and go on a multi-level quest for candy on its journey home!
Use a drag and drop program to make your own Flappy Bird Game, and customize it to look different such as a Flappy Santa, or Flappy Shark.
The ever-popular Minecraft Voyage Aquatic Journey is new this year. Students use their creativity and problem-solving skills to explore and build underwater worlds with code.
Coming Soon-next week we will add Santa Tracker and Code Boogie for coding some fun Dance Party moves!
