Meet the Literacy Staff at Readfield Elementary School:

Maria Rungi

Literacy Specialist

Hello!  My name is Maria Rungi. I am the literacy specialist here at Readfield Elementary School, and am the Title 1 Reading intervention and Reading Recovery teacher. I have been teaching in the public school system since 2003, and have been at RES since 2010. In my career, I have taught in a variety of positions, such as: self-contained special education teacher, third grade classroom teacher, K-3 literacy interventionist, and since I have been at Readfield Elementary School, a Literacy Specialist and Reading Recovery teacher. I have a bachelor’s degree in Rehabilitation, a master’s degree in special education, and am a certified literacy specialist as well as a certified Reading Recovery teacher.

I have a passion for teaching literacy, both instructing students, as well as supporting elementary school teachers with literacy instruction in the classroom setting. My goal is to teach students the strategies to learn how to read, and become better readers, but also to foster a love of learning and a love of reading. I believe that all students can learn to love to read, if given the right support, the right tools, and most importantly, the right books!

Please feel free to contact me with any questions regarding your child’s literacy program. You can reach me at 685-4406 or through email at: maria_rungi@maranacook.org
