Second and third graders read one of the ten books up for the Chickadee Picture Book Award.  They worked together to chose an important event from the book and bring it to life in a book diorama.  After reading all 10 books, students in grades K-4 will votes for their favorite, along with many other schools throughout Maine to help pick a Winner.

Grades 2-5 Skyped with author Barb Rosenstock, the author of 3 books that have been on the KVBA list.  They got to asked questions about what it is like to be an author and how authors get the ideas for their stories.  They also learned about the writing process that takes a story from an idea to a published book.

Did I Do That? Using Videotaped Lessons as a Teaching Tool Susan Lockhart, Literacy Specialist for Mount Vernon and Wayne Elementary Schools, received a MEF Grant of $300.00 for her project, “Did I Do That? Using Videotaped Lessons as a Teaching Tool.” She will purchase technology equipment for students to analyze their own videotaped oral reading to improve fluency.
