Dear Families,

I am writing to update you on the school schedule for tomorrow, Thursday, December 21st. Please read this message carefully for all details.

  1. The district will be open and operating on a half day schedule as previously planned.

  2. Mount Vernon Elementary School (MTVES) and Wayne Elementary School (WES) will be closed. However, any elementary student from MTVES or WES needing a warm meal,  place to warm up  and a safe, welcoming  space the following plan has been put into place:

  • MTVES elementary students a bus will be at the elementary school at approximately 7:30 am to be transported to Readfield Elementary School.  MTVES staff will be at RES to meet the students. (The return trip drop off time is approximately 11:50 am.)

  • WES elementary students a bus will be at the elementary school at approximately 7:30 am to transport to Manchester Elementary School (MES). WES staff will be at MES to meet the students.  (The return trip drop off time is approximately 12:00 pm.)

  • 3. Please note that several roads still remain inaccessible to bus traffic.  As of this writing these are the roads that a bus can NOT travel:

    1. Manchester 

      1. Bus 20 -   Worthing Rd.

      2. Bus 19 - Pond Rd, Benson Rd, Kerns Hill Rd

    2. Mt. Vernon 

      1. Bus 3 -  Belgrade Rd. from Bean Rd to Watson Rd to Bean Rd

      2. Bus 29 - Pond Rd toward Mt. Vernon Market

    3. Readfield

      1. Bus 17 - Old Kents Hill Rd, Sturtevant Hill Rd, Russell Street

      2. Bus 14 - Beaver Dam Rd, Tall Wood

    4. Wayne

      1. Bus 3 - Whispering Pines, North end of Pond Rd.

      2. Bus 11 - Hardscrabble Rd, Green Tree rd.

4. Please be aware that due to the repair efforts there may be unexpected delays for pick up and drop off.  If you have any questions please contact the RSU #38 Transportation at 685- 3621.

5. We completely understand if you decide to keep your children home, all absences will be excused.  We feel it is important to be open for students and hopefully it will be helpful to families.  But once again please make the decision based on your comfort level and the needs of your children.
