The Maranacook Education Foundation was pleased to award a number of grants  this school year that enhanced current curriculum studies throughout our school district. One proposal, written and submitted by Jeannette Jacobs, Principal of Wayne Elementary School, was entitled, "Bringing the Curriculum to Life." This article highlights a visit from the Children's Museum and Theatre of Maine where they shared a program called "A Whale's Tale" as part of their Traveling Hands-On Science Exhibits. Through interactive stations and activities focused around a life-sized humpback whale model, students were able to learn about whale anatomy, behavior, and habitats. They touched real artifacts like baleen and listened to whale songs. The students also took on the role of young ecologists to understand how whales fit into the broader ocean ecosystem. Programs like "A Whale's Tale" give our students memorable hands-on experiences that bring science concepts to life. They are able to engage their curiosity, build critical thinking skills, and gain a deeper appreciation for ocean ecosystems. The staff at Wayne was so glad they could provide this whale of an adventure! Students will be participating in one additional exhibit by the end of the school year. MEF was pleased to be able to support this program.
