To RSU #38 students, staff, and communities,
Thank you for your patience as we worked with authorities on this very serious threat to the safety of Maranacook Community High School. A suspect has been identified by authorities and the school administration is moving to hold this person accountable for their actions that disrupted our schools and communities.
As a result of this work I am confident in the safety and security of our high and middle schools to reopen the Maranacook Schools/Campus immediately.
The Haunted Walk sponsored by the PTO at the High School will be open tonight beginning at 5:30 pm and ending at 9:30 pm.
Our High School Girls Soccer team will continue with an afternoon practice.
As the Middle and High Schools reopen to students and staff Tuesday, November 1st you will see a law enforcement presence on campus at various times of the day. We would like to thank the Kennebec County Sheriff's Department and the Maine State Police for the support they have provided with their presence.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the students who showed tremendous bravery by reporting to adults and school officials what they experienced. “If you see something, say something” is a powerful message that the students and families put into practice allowing us to keep our schools safe.
Finally, I end with an apology to those families that did not receive notification through our alert system. We were notified this morning by our provider that a high number of notifications were not successful due to an outage of their servers. In the future we will make sure to use multiple notifications pieces and not over rely on a single source. We are monitoring this communication to verify our system works as it should.
